Kisii Judge Rejects Vigilantes

High Court Judge Isaac Wambilianga has slammed vigilante groups, saying they were violating the law and diverting justice. The Kisii judge said the vigilantes interfered with the smooth administration of the law and will not be tolerated.

The judge's remarks during the official opening of the Kuria law courts by Chief Justice Bernard Chunga were in reaction to local leaders appeal to the courts to protect sungu sungu vigilantes.

Led by Kehancha Mayor Joseph Chacha, the leaders had appealed to the court to protect sungu sungu and a council of elders known as Iritongo which they credited for taming crime.
