Kisii Chief Magistrate Jacob Ombonya, however, ordered that Mrs Grace Kadembeki pay Sh15,000 by August 6 and the remaining by August 26 or risk being thrown back into jail.
An overjoyed Mrs Kadembeki was welcomed by relatives when she was released from the Kisii GK prison at 3.45 pm.
She was sent to jail 12 days ago when she failed to pay the fine imposed on her as costs of a case she withdrew from before it was determined. She had sued her grandson, Mr Moses Sarano Kayere, and a land buyer, Mr Wilson Okanda, over a piece of land she claimed was sold without her consent.
Mrs Kadembeki , a widow, was full of praise for the Prisons authorities and singled out the officer in charge, Mrs Florence Mutuku for taking good care of her.
Mrs Kadembeki who walked with the use of a cane, said she experienced a lot of
psychological torture as "I was forced to sleep on the floor with a thin mattress".
She claimed that for most of days she went hungry as she could not get her favorite dishes.
