Church Intact, Say Police

Kisii police boss Anderson Wambugu yesterday clarified that the Bogiakumu Catholic Church was not burned down during last Sunday's fracas that left two people dead.

The Kisii Catholic Diocese Vicar General, Rev Fr Pancras Chuma Mogaka, separately said the fracas started in the church but the killings did not take place inside the building. He, however, said the church was closed pending a religious cleansing by the local bishop.

Wambugu said administration policemen from Suneka DO's office were the first to arrive at the scene to quell the fracas and not anti-riot policemen.

Wambugu said the six suspects arrested in connection with the incident were still being held.

The OCPD appealed to politicians and other people who plan to have public meetings to inform them in time to make security arrangements, especially remote areas.
