Finance Minister Chris Obure and Local Government Assistant Minister Joseph Kiangoi were attacked at Kioge market - a kilometre away from Intana Secondary School - where they had held a harambee in aid of the school.
The two escaped unhurt after their bodyguards shot in the air to scare off the marauding gangs suspected to be Ford People supporters.
Obure's Mitsubishi Pajero vehicle in which the leaders were travelling had all its windows shattered by missiles.
Anti-riot police had escorted the funds collected to Nyamira Police Station during the 7.30 pm incident.
Kiangoi, who is the area MP, had to use his mobile phone to alert local OCPD, Mr Stanley Lamai, who swung into action immediately. The OCPD said nobody was injured in the 20 minute incident.
