Nyamira Inmate, 70, Drops Dead

An elderly remandee whom the Nyamira Senior Resident Magistrate, Kiarie Waweru, ordered taken for medication two weeks ago collapsed and died while being escorted to court yesterday.

Nyamira police boss, Mr Stanley Lamai, said his officers had opened an inquest file into the death of Eunice Nyarinda Mosoti. The 70-year-old woman died aboard a police Land Rover which was packed with other inmates.

The inmates were on transit to the Nyamira Law Courts from the Kisii GK prison. Lamai said the woman has been ailing and attributed her condition to old age. The deceased was facing charges of having murdered her husband at Mawawa in Nyamusi Division, last year.

On April 9, Kiarie ordered that Nyarinda be taken for immediate treatment.
