Onkundi, arrested last week from his hide-out in Subukia, Nakuru District, denied robbing a former senior police officer, Mr Henry Nyaosi, of cash, a pistol and household goods.
He appeared before the Senior Principal Magistrate, Mrs Olga Aketch Sewe, who ordered him remanded in custody until February 13 when the case will be heard.
Onkundi, the court was told, has been in hiding since February 26 last year when he and others already in court allegedly staged a robbery at Nyaosi's home.
He and his co-accused in the case also allegedly killed Nyaosi's wife, Milka Nyaosi, who prior to the incident at Bogiakumu location, Suneka division in Kisii was a councillor at Gusii County Council.
Onkundi, who was brought to court under tight security, is said to have violently robbed the Nyaosi family of Sh50,000, a motor vehicle, a pistol loaded with bullets and household goods valued at Sh780,000.
Onkundi's lawyer, Mr Richard Onsongo, asked the court for an early trial saying the accused's health condition was bad.
He said the former civic leader has a cardiac problem and has been undergoing treatment up to the time he was arrested.
"He is also hypertensive and diabetic and requires constant attention," Onsongo said.
He proposed that the trial of the accused commence on February 4. His proposal was, however, opposed by Chief Inspector Shem Ombwak, prosecuting the case. Ombwak asked the court for two weeks to summon the witnesses who he said lives in Kisii.
