Six Killed in New Wave of Crime

Five people were killed in Kisii and one in Nairobi in a new wave of violent robberies.

In Kisii, two of the victims were guards at the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (Kari) station. Two others, suspected to be part of the terror gang, were killed by the public, police said.

Another gang clobbered a mechanic to death at Kiogoro market.

Local police boss Anderson Wambugu said six other people were seriously injured during the raids.

The thugs ransacked offices and escaped with Sh10,000 from the cashier's office. They broke into the director's office and took the spare keys of a Land Rover and drove away. The car was later recovered near Keroka town.

A homemade gun and a live bullet were recovered from the two suspects lynched at Kiogoro market, where others allegedly escaped with Sh30,000.

Area Kari boss Selister Makini said the staff were shocked to find bodies lying outside her office, with neighbours saying there was no commotion on the fateful night.

In Nairobi, a guard was killed when gangsters raided the home of a tycoon yesterday. Mr Richard Kemoli and his wife sustained minor injuries and lost Sh40,000 and vital documents.

His guard was smashed on the head with a metal bar and died on the spot.

Mr Kemoli is chairman of Bamburi Portland Cement, Unga Group Ltd and Housing Finance Company of Kenya, among others.
