The Energy minister said he was undergoing treatment for an injury he sustained a year ago and it was taking up a lot of his money.
"I need sympathy from you. Stop harassing me for cash handouts even now when I am a sick man," he told hundreds of his Nyaribari Chache constituents at Keumbu shopping centre on Monday.
"I have so far spent about Sh6 million seeking treatment abroad. Besides that, I have donated Sh1 million to the Nyachae Education Bursary Fund for your children, but you still want me to meet your personal financial needs," the MP complained.
He said those flocking his Nyosia rural home were insincere. Mr Nyachae donated drugs worth Sh3 million and books to two top public schools from each location in last year's Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examination.
During the leaders' meeting, the minister dissolved his personal constituency bursary fund's committee, following complaints by the constituents that it was ineffective.
Instead, Mr Nyachae directed district officer Elmi Shafi to call a meeting at which a new team would be named.
Mr Nyachae blamed other leaders for not supporting the kitty. "My fellow leaders have left the issue of educating children of the poor to me, but as an individual, it will be difficult to meet your demands," he said.
During the meeting, Mr Nyachaeclashed publicly with a councillor over a Sh1.2 million project in his constituency. The minister said the Nyaribari Chache Constituency Development Fund committee had not approved a dispensary project and would not allocate funds for it.
But Kisii deputy mayor Lukas Ongaki insisted that Bobaracho dispensary was a priority to the residents.
Mr Nyachae had also asked the councillor to find money to pay a private constructor hired to build the dispensary.
To this the councillor responded: "Mr Nyachae, it seems you have been misled, but all in all, we will resort to public fund-raising if (you) block us from benefiting from the CDF." He said the project had been properly approved.
Yesterday, hundreds of Bobaracho residents demonstrated to the district hospital against the minister's stand and to demand that the project be approved.
