They will re-sit the examination this year at the same school. The students will report back on Monday to begin their preparations.
"We want to prove to the world that the candidates did not cheat. They were an extremely excellent class.
Just wait for the results next year," said the Principal, Mr Patrick Monyenye.
Although the candidates have appealed to the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), they have decided to register for this year's examination as well. The deadline for registration is the end of this month.
"We decided to register in case of any eventuality. We are not sure Knec will do us justice. There are no independent monitors to see how Knec handles the appeals," said a candidate who sought anonymity.
The students will, however, pay a subsidised fee of Sh26,000, down from Sh34,000 the rest of the school pays.
The decision was made during a Special Board of Governors meeting on Wednesday.
Monyenye told The Standard yesterday that six extra classrooms that were under construction are now complete and will accommodate the candidates.
The 197 candidates join 200 others who were last November promoted to Form Four.
"My staff of 70 teachers have agreed to sacrifice and attend to the extra candidates as well as teach the other 1,000-plus students in lower classes," explained Monyenye.
And contrary to the expectations of many, the candidates will foot the full cost of the remarking the papers they have appealed. Each of the papers will attract a Sh750 fee.
Many had expected area MPs to help defray the costs since they were at the forefront in petitioning for the remarking of the papers to allay fears of victimisation of the Gusii community.
Energy minister Simeon Nyachae led other Kisii MPs to petition Education minister George Saitoti over the cancellation.
