He was discharged from a London hospital last week and was undergoing physiotherapy at an undisclosed location in Britain.
"I am happy to inform friends and concerned members of the public that Mr Nyachae is doing well and recovering speedily," said his son, Charles, who is the family spokesman.
The Ford People leader was admitted to hospital after a leg injury during training in a gymnasium early in the year.
The leg was operated on last month when the pain persisted.
"Following surgery and hospitalisation, he was discharged from hospital a week ago and will be in the office as soon as he is through with his physiotherapy sessions, possibly in the first week of October," said the spokesman.
Reports of the minister's hospitalisation raised anxiety among Kenyans, in particular his supporters in Kisii - coming at a time when assistant ministers Peter Kenneth, Zaddock Syongoh and Government chief whip Norman Nyagah were separately admitted to Nairobi Hospital for unrelated reasons.
They have since been discharged.
Energy permanent secretary Patrick Nyoike placed a paid-up advertisement in a daily newspaper recently to explain the minister's state of health to calm an anxious public. He said the minister had flown to London only for a medical check-up.
Mr Nyachae became the seniormost Opposition MP appointed to the Cabinet last June, when President Kibaki expanded his Government into one of "national unity" to include Kanu and Ford People MPs.
He was appointed alongside Mr Henry Obwocha (Finance assistant minister), Mr Njenga Karume (Office of the President), Mr Mahmud Abdi Mohamed (Regional Development) and Mr John Koech (East African and Regional Affairs).
Mr Nyachae unsuccessfully vied for the presidency in the 2002 General Election, coming third after Mr Kibaki and Kanu's Uhuru Kenyatta.
Prior to the presidential bid, he had served as the MP for Nyaribari Chache and in various Cabinet positions.
He resigned from President Moi's Cabinet in 1998 after he was moved from Finance to Water Development.
Prior to the ministerial transfer, he had stunned the world by declaring that Kenya's economy was in intensive care.
