Kebirigo Annual Race On October 1

The annual Kebirigo 10km road race will be held on October 1 and not this Friday as we reported yesterday.

Preparations for the second edition are complete according to organisers and the race will start at 8am.

Speaking during a meeting at Kebirigo Resource Centre, local Athletics Kenya secretary Peter Oenga said those who will compete in 10km for seniors will pay Sh50 participation fee while those who will take part in the 4km junior race will pay Sh20.

Oenga said the 10km race will start at Nyachururu junction along the Kisii-Chemosit Road and end at Ibara while the 4km will start at Konate-Nyamira junction. He said they changed the course to the the main Kisii-Chemosit road which is tarmacked to avoid injuries on Kebirigo Nyabara-Ibere course.

During the occassion Oenga presented tracksuits and "T" shirts to athletes from Kebirigo Athletics Club. He said the event will be used to prepare for the annual Standard Chartered Marathon which will be held in Nairobi on on October 24.

Oenga said the best athletes during the Kebirigo race will be sponsored to attend the Standard Chartered Marathon.

Athletes who have confirmed they will take part included: Last year's winner Onesmus Nyerere, Benard Koria, George Onchong'a, William Morwabe, Cliff Reki, Jason Mosoti, Anthony Nyamwamu and Thomas Nyabika.

"We are expecting a huge turn out because schools are open and we encourage children between the ages of 13 and 14 to participate in the junior race," he concluded.
