Anyona denies working with Nyachae's enemies

Kitutu Masaba MP George Anyona yesterday denied claims that he is working with former Finance Minister Simeon Nyachae's detractors to undermine him.

He asked Cabinet Ministers Sam Ongeri and Chris Obure to protect Mr. Nyachae from harassment by the system, as "he is one of us". He told journalists at Jamhuri Guest House in Kisii Town that Mr. Nyachae should support his (Anyona's) efforts to unite Kisii leaders.

The MP said the move to reconcile Mr. Nyachae and Prof. Ongeri was for the good of the Kisii community and the elected MPs in relation to national politics. He termed those against the reconciliation move as enemies of the Abagusii, saying such people were distancing the community from national politics.

Mr. Anyona said he would not give in to blackmail or run away from the responsibility of reconciling the warring factions in Kisii.

"I am not in Kanu and I am not aspiring for the presidency on a Kanu ticket. So I have no business thwarting efforts by Mr. Nyachae to seek the presidential vote. But we want a situation where the elected MPs from Kisii agree on where to cast their presidential vote so that they can have better bargaining power," Mr. Anyona said.

Mr. Anyona said he had helped to reconcile differing factions during the Gucha District crisis and was ready to do the same in other situations.
