The PPO convened a rare press conference at his Kisumu office on Tuesday and declared: "The State had no hand in the incident."Mr. Warsame called on anybody with information on those responsible for the the attack to report directly to him or to the Nyanza Provincial Criminal Investigations Officer, Mr. Joel Cheruiyot.
Mr. Nyachae's home in Kisii was raided by unknown people and his two vehicles torched. An unspent cartridge was recovered at the scene while those in the home at the time talked of hearing a blast that sounded like a gun shot.
The PPO said they were still investigating the incident and were treating it as a case of arson. However, he said the police did not have any strong leads as to who the perpetrators were.
"The Kisii OCPD has been instructed to mobilise his men and beef up security in the general area," said the police boss.
"We are taking this issue very seriously."The police boss was reacting to a story in one of the dailies yesterday, which quoted leaders in Kisii, Kisumu and Nairobi as saying the State was behind the attack as part of a wider scheme to intimidate the Nyaribari Chache MP.
They described the attack as state instigated thuggery and warned that the government will be solely responsible should anything happen to Mr. Nyachae. The former Minister was away in Nairobi at the time of the attack. The raiders are alleged not to have stolen anything.
