Matatu Strike Continues To Bite

In Nyamira, matatu transport was completely paralysed yesterday as operators suspended their operations when rowdy touts pelted with stones the vehicles of those who ignored the call to strike.

As the strike continued to bite, area politicians asked the government to rescind the decision to implement the TLB regulations, saying it was prohibitive.

Several passengers were stranded at various bus terminuses in Nyamira Town and other trading centres.

Nyamira County Council Vice- Chairman Samuel Mokweri said the order by President Moi to implement the TLB regulations was in bad taste as he had not considered the consequences it would have on Kenyans who depend on the industry.
