Moi University Students Organisation (MUSO) secretary general Abel Matoke told reporters in Kisii yesterday that recent reports that the two politicians had links with the students were untrue and malicious.
"We, however, want to state that we want to associate ourselves with leaders who are fearless and committed to the service of this country" Matoke said.
The student was reacting to claims that an abducted student George Matata was asked by the abductors what links the students had with the two leaders.
At the same time, the student leader yesterday called for fairness in the admission of students for the parallel degree programme at the university.
He said the admissions should not be tribal and that all areas in the country would be given a chance to present qualified students for the programmes. "We have already sensed that certain areas are being favoured in the admissions of students which are not based on merit but on tribe", he claimed.
Meanwhile Kenya National Union of Teaches (Knut) Kisii branch has called for close monitoring of the ongoing KCSE examinations to avoid any ugly incidents in the district.
Branch chairman Geoffrey Mogire and secretary David Mokamba told reporters at their Mwalimu office that any unfounded irregularity claims at this time may affect the students and lead to poor performance.
"We are appealing to all concerned to exercise vigilance and to stop peddling unfounded reports about any irregularity as this may cause anxiety among students and subsequent poor performance", they said. The union officials expressed their disgust with reports appearing in a section of the press that the three Gusii districts are being investigate for possible exam leakage.
They appealed to the Nyanza Provincial Director of Education (PDE) Roselyne Onyuka to ensure such malicious and unfounded reports are thoroughly investigated to establish the source.
The PDE has since denied any leakage in any of the three Gusii districts of Kisii, Nyamira and Gucha.
