Church Mourns Religious Brother

The Church in Kenya -the Brothers of Our Lady Mother of Mercy (CMM) in particular- is mourning Br Anthony Koning CMM, who died in a road accident on Thursday, April 28, 2005.Br Anthony who turned 66 on April 13, 2005, had been in Kenya for 40 years.

The burial is on Friday, May 6, 2005, at the Brothers' Mosocho community, Kisii Diocese, after a Requiem Mass at Cardinal Otunga High School.

The CMM Superior General Broer Huitema CMM -who happened to be in Kenya when the tragedy happened- will attend the burial."We are grateful for all the things Br Anthony has done for us," the Institute said in a statement availed to CISA. "We will remember him as a man who fulfilled his mission of mercy with continuous dedication."

Br Anthony, a Dutch, was the Kenya Regional and Provincial Superior for 25 years until 1996. He was the animator of the Oyugis Integrated Project when he died."Working with dying and marginalized people in such a direct relationship is a challenge . . . for which I am very grateful," the statement quoted the late Br Anthony as saying.
