Cross Country - Fast Ngatuny Powers to Victory
His closest rival, Justus Lagat came second two minutes apart. Ngatuny clocked 35 minutes 57 seconds while Lagat clocked 37 minutes and one second.Ngatuny was in Kenya's victorious Chiba Ekiden relay marathon last year.He clocked an impressive 26:51 in the 10km. He said he was confident he would make it to the national cross country team that will travel to Mombasa in March."This race was not an easy one even though I won, it was difficult and the drizzle slowed me down. The big race awaits me in Mombasa and God willing I will qualify to represent my country in Mombasa," he said after winning the race.
Gucha's Wesley Ochoro settled for third spot in 37 minutes narrowly beating Nyamira's Boaz Mayaka to fourth position in 37 minutes and 36 seconds.Isaiah Ondieki, a student at Metamaywa Secondary School broke away from the leading pack after the first lap to win the 8km junior men's race. This was the most competitive race of the day.

Joseph Onsarigo of Gucha came third in 24:40.09 while Justus Mogere also from Gucha clocked 24:45.00 as Nyamira's Stephen Arita finished fifth in 24:45.01.Japan based Evelyn Kimwei won the women's 8km race beating compatriot and race favourite Philes Ongori to second position.
Alice Mogire of Gucha came a distant third in 29:18.00 while Jackline Nyangeri clocked 29:22.02 to finish fourth.A team of 16 runners were selected to represent the province in the national trials. Jane Onyangi of Kiomiti Secondary School easily won the 6km junior women's race in 21 minutes and 48 seconds.Judith Ngatuny of Nyota Secondary followed her in 22:17.00 while Elda Kona also from Kiomiti clocked 22:37.00 edging compatriot Rose Moroga to fourth position in 22:46.00.
The event, which was held under a steady drizzle and weather, was sponsored by six Japanese coaches who graced the championships. The top ten runners in each category received running shoes, kit, training kit and tracksuits courtesy of electronics company Panasonic. The coaches led by Stephen Mayaka and Akiyama Tsutomu said Japanese companies would continue to sponsor athletics events in the region to tap talent.
