Headteacher Attacked Over Poor Results

Students at a secondary school in Gucha District physically attacked their headmaster over what they said was the poor performance by the school in the national examinations.The students of a mixed day secondary school in south Mugirango constituency blamed their principal for the falling standards and examination malpractices at the school.

They cornered the principal in the school compound a few minutes after he had reported for duty, prompting him to flee into a sugarcane plantation, with the students baying for his blood.

Villagers calmed down the students before headteacher came out of his hiding place.He reported the matter at the Gucha District Education Officer's office.The students presented their grievances to the deputy headteacher before resuming lessons.The school had a mean score of 2.0625, with the leading candidate scoring a D.

Low enrolment

Separately the Ministry of Education has closed down Gianchore Mixed Day Secondary School in Bobasi constituency over low enrolment.The school had two students against seven teachers employed by the Government, who were deployed to neighbouring schools.
