Race for Gucha District Soccer title

In Gucha, Sameta Mixed overcame defending champions Nyamache 3-1 to lift the Gucha District secondary schools boy’s soccer title.

Nyamache took the lead in the 13th minute through Kelvin Onderi who headed home a Phillip Masese free kick. Dennis Machora equalized for Sameta in the 43rd minute to put the score at 1-1 after the first half.

Dominic Mose scored a brace in the 67th and 89th minutes as Sameta booked a place in the Nyanza secondary schools provincial championships to be staged in Kisumu as from July 25 to 28.

Sameta sailed to the finals without kicking the ball after their opponents were suspended while Nyamache narrowly overcame Maiga 2-1.

Mochengo retained the girl’s soccer title after a 3-0 thumping of Buyonge secondary. Teresa Orina, Fridah Samuel, and Evelyn Ogoso scored for the victors in one-sided match that was played at Nyachogochogo playground.

In the semifinals, Mochengo secondary walloped Isena Mission 4-0 while Buyonge narrowly defeated Magena 1-0.
