Ngilu, Nyachae, Kombo in Kisii for Rally

The new "Big Three" will converge in Kisii today in search of a Third Force to sell President Kibaki's Government of National Unity (Gnu).

Mrs Charity Ngilu (National party of Kenya), Mr Musikari Kombo (Ford-Kenya) and Mr Simeon Nyachae (Ford-People) will be testing the political waters in a move that could culminate in the formation of vessel of preference for President Kibaki's re-election bid.

On Sunday, Kisii District Commissioner, Mr Abdilahi Leloon, said all security arrangements had been put in place to ensure that the pro-Kibaki rally scheduled for Marani divisional headquarters was peaceful.

"In the past, pro-Government ministers have been intimidated by opposition supporters at various parts of the district forcing us to ensure that a repeat is not experienced today" said the DC.

Monday's meeting to be held in Jimmy Angwenyi's Kitutu Chache Constituency is expected to bring together those who will form the bedrock of the Third Force.

A record 11 Cabinet ministers besides Nyachae, including, Justice Minister Martha Karua, Charity Ngilu (Health) and Musikari Kombo Local Government) will lead a team of about 42 pro-Government MPs.

Nyachae, Kombo and Ngilu met last week in what was perceived to be an attempt to form a third force, which would be tasked with marketing President Kibaki's second term bid.

At the same ODM-K leaders in Kisii led by South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara, and LDP officials Timothy Bosire (Kitutu Masaba), George Anunda (Nyaribari Masaba) and Charles Makone (Borabu) said they were not scared with the launching of the GNU meetings in the area.

"Our people are solidly with us in ODM-Kenya. We are not bothered with whatever plans they have. We are confident of carrying the day come next year's General Election," said Magara.

Monday's Gnu meeting was being prepared as former Cabinet minister Cyrus Jirongo said Ford-Kenya, Ford-People, NPK and his Kenya African Democratic Development Union (Kaddu) would soon merge to form the Third Force.

Jirongo said the parties were finalising a deal to bind them together under the third force.

"Talks by the party's leaders are at an advanced stage and the much touted political force would soon be launched," he said. Speaking in Shinyalu Constituency at the weekend, Jirongo said the force would then be registered as a political party.

Jirongo was speaking at Lukusi Primary School where he led four MPs among them Cabinet minister Mr Soita Shitanda, assistant minister Dr Bonny Khalwale, Mr Wycliffe Osundwa and the host, Mr Daniel Khamasi, in raising money for the institution.
