Arrest Road Grabber, Says Anyona

Kitutu Masaba MP George Anyona yesterday accused a private developer of having erected permanent buildings along the by-pass between the Sotik-Kisii road.

He called for the arrest of those involved in this scandalous encroachment on the road by-pass.

"The illegal encroachment on the road by-pass is a case of grabbing of public land," said Anyona in a statement. Anyona added that the situation must be arrested and reversed. The situation, Anyona said, has caused serious problems in the development of the transport infrastructure within Kisii town. He wondered whether the ministry was aware that private developers encroached on the land reserved for the by-pass by erecting permanent buildings against the general will and outcry of the residents of Kisii town.

Anyona also wondered whether the approval of the Chief Engineer and the Highway Authority was sought and granted for the encroachment on the by-pass and the land reserved for it between Daraja Moja and Daraja Mbili.
