Mr Sam Nyamweya's group boycotted a meeting called by Prof Ongeri, who took over the branch leadership from Mr Geoffrey Asanyo a year ago. Those who stayed away from the meeting included the vice-chairman, Mr Zakaria Mutari, and a member of the executive committee, Mr Richard Onyonka.
Prof Ongeri's group resolved that the officials be summoned to appear before the committee. Some 300 party members attended the meeting.
They accused Mr Nyamweya of undermining Prof Ongeri. None of the rival group members were available for comment. The minister criticised Kisii members of both the Electoral Commission of Kenya and the Constitution of Kenya Review Commission, accusing them of "pre-election irregularities". He claimed that the commissioners had been compromised by Opposition leaders from the community to manipulate the process.
He claimed that the officials were out to undermined the Kanu government by articulating the policies of the Opposition parties "that nominated them". Prof Ongeri further alleged that some 20,000 strangers had been illegally registered as voters in the 10 Omugusii constituencies.
The minister claimed that youths from Kitutu Masaba constituency had crossed over to his Nyaribari Masaba constituency to register there. He urged the police to investigate the activities of the electoral officials and the civic education groups and directed the cheering Kanu youths to man all the registration centres and vet applicants
Earlier, a group that attempted to disrupt the meeting were chased away.
