Fielding questions from journalists after presiding over the graduation ceremony at Nyanchwa Adventist College, Mr Obwocha said: "Those who have overstayed are either lax or are colluding with criminals and they will be transferred soon."The government, Mr Obwocha said, was committed to fighting crime in the area. He said some officers were frustrating efforts to fight crime.
Volunteer information
"Last week's transfer of more than 50 officers is a classic example that we are committed to the fight against insecurity and we are asking the public to volunteer information about criminals to the police," added the West Mugirango MP.Over the last two months, more than 20 people have been killed in the region by thugs, or by villagers on suspicion of being criminals or witches.
Last week, 53 police officers were transferred from Kisii police division but some senior police officers who have stayed in the area for over 10 years were not moved.Elsewhere, former minister Prof Sam Ongeri and a Catholic priest accused the government of failing to contain insecurity in the three districts.
Prof Ongeri and the Nyansiongo Parish priest Pancras Chuma said gangsters were terrorising residents at will as if there was no law safeguarding human lives in the country. They were speaking during a funds drive in aid of Nyasike Catholic church in Masaba North location.
