Barclays merges Kisii, Homa Bay, Migori branches

Barclays Bank of Kenya has merged its three branches of Kisii, Homa Bay and Migori to improve services to its customers. But businessmen in south Nyanza have cried foul, accusing the bank of ill motive.

Barclays' outgoing operations director in Homa Bay, Mr Elly Oula, confirmed the branches were merged with effect from October 9.

Yesterday, residents of Homa Bay District appealed to the bank's management to reverse the decision to amalgamate banking services of the three branches.

The Knut Homabay secretary, Mr Adero Nyamburi, Mayor Joshua Angado and Kanu treasurer Otiyo Mwayi said the merger would adversely affect business enterprises in the region.

The other banks in Homa Bay are Kenya Commercial Bank and Cooperative Bank. The leaders told journalists in Homa Bay town that the merger, with one manager based in Kisii, was meant to economically marginalise the Luo community.
