The leaders, who claimed to represent the community and other Kenyans, said Mr. Nyachae is not only the Kisii favourite but was also seen by majority of Kenyans as the best candidate for the post. In a statement, the six men from Nairobi - Mr. James Kamanda (Woodley), Mr. David Omayo (Dagoretti), Mr. Zacharia Nyamongo (Langata), Mr. Methusellah K. Mondi (Nairobi West) and Mr. Gerald Osiemo - said Mr. Nyachae was the best of the candidates proposed for the seat.
Last week, opposition leaders said the VP debate was a Kanu tactic to distract Kenyans from the real issues.
The appointment of the Cabinet must be approved by Parliament to make the office holders accountable, the Council of Imams and Preachers said yesterday. In a statement signed by the council's national chairman, Sheikh Ali Shee, the imams said the head of state's powers should be reduced.
