23 have died of malaria in Kisii, says medic

Twenty-three people, among them 11 children, have died of malaria over the last six days at the Kisii District Hospital, according to the Kisii MoH, Dr Thomas Ogaro.

Dr Ogaro said yesterday that despite the continuing supply of drugs and disposables to the hospital and other government-run health facilities, the epidemic has so far claimed over 152 people.

Since it broke out in Kisii a month ago, over 7,000 people have been diagnosed as suffering from the disease.

The medic further said at least seven people have so far been reported dead in private hospitals in the same period but admitted the number could be higher.
