Kenya Football Federation secretary-general Sam Nyamweya, former Nakuru Kanu chairman Geoffrey Asanyo, Nairobi businessman Richard Onyonka, Gusii County Council chairman Casper Gichana and Kisii municipality deputy mayor Michael Okari, were reacting to criticism Mr. Angwenyi levelled against President Moi on Tuesday.
Mr. Onyonka and Mr. Asanyo lost to Mr. Angwenyi during the Kanu nominations for the 1997 General Election. Mr. Angwenyi had expressed joy at his dismissal saying he would never become a sycophant. He revealed that when moved to the Ministry of Trade, he was given no duties and did not have a chair to sit on.The four said Mr. Angwenyi had introduced the subject of failed development projects into his sacking to cover up for his own shortcomings. He has shown clearly to be Mr. Nyachae's sycophant and has abandoned his constituents to follow another MP, Mr. Asanyo said.
He denied that the Kisii-Chemosit road passes through Kitutu Chache and said it is Mr. Angwenyi who had failed to fulfil promises for development made to his constituents.
Mr. Onyonka said Kitutu Chache residents did not wish to be dragged into the Moi succession battle. They were not opposed to either Mr. Nyachae or Mr. Angwenyi contesting for the presidency when the next elections are called but this should not be done by antagonising the government, he said.
Mr. Nyamweya claimed that Kitutu Chache had ceded three quarters of its land area, including parts of Kisii Town, to Mr. Nyachae's Nyaribari Chache constituency.
Mr. Angwenyi should tell us where he was when this was happening," he said.
The four accused Mr. Angwenyi of undermining leaders from the area who wanted to contribute to its development.
They challenged the lawmaker to account for Sh1.8 million collected for the constituency's bursary fund and Sh650,000 from Marani Co-operative Society.
