One Killed in Fresh Fighting Along Border

The dead person was identified as Samuel Obiri Ochiego. His body is lying at Akemo Nursing Hospital mortuary.He had been taken to the Tabaka Mission Hospital on being hit by an arrow, which is still lodged in his body.Skirmishes between the two communities have so far claimed eight lives.
Kisii youths, popularly known as Chinkororo, raided Maasai manyattas in Trans Mara but were repulsed by morans before they stole livestock.The Maasai pursued the warriors into Gucha District and burnt three houses belonging to Mzee Hamisi Omari before destroying crops.
Gucha police boss Burudi Makokha described the renewed fighting as unfortunate. He said it was saddening the two communities had broken the peace resolutions passed last Monday at a meeting chaired by Gucha District Commissioner Hassan Noor Hassan and his Trans Mara counterpart, Mr Wilfred Ndolo.
During the meeting, the Kisii community was banned from grazing in Trans Mara until the situation normalises.
Yesterday, Mr Makokha said the ban had not been adhered to and promised to take tough action against those violating the resolutions.He said he and his Trans Mara counterpart were in touch and would beef up security along the border to bring the clashes to an end.
By the time of we went to press, fighting between the two communities was still raging at Nyamecheo and Nyabitunwa.
