Nyachae to Lead Key Meeting of Abagusii

Over 1,000 Abagusii leaders will today hold an historic meeting in Kisii town.

The political, religious and opinion leaders from Kisii, Gucha and Nyamira districts will meet at the Gusii Institute of Technology starting 9.30 am.

The meeting has been convened by Ford People leader, Mr Simeon Nyachae and nine other parliamentarians from the community. It will focus on development and the future of the community.

MPs expected to attend are Nyachae and Jimmy Angwenyi, Dr Hezron Manduku, Zebedeo Opore, Omingo Magara, Joel Onyancha, Stephen Manoti, Nyangau Okioma, Geoffrey Masanya and Henry Obwocha.

By yesterday, there were reliable indications that Kisii DC, Mr Abdulahi Leloon, his Nyamira counterpart, Mr Jamleck Baruga, and Gucha's Samuel Kilele had also been invited as observers alongside heads of departments in the three districts.

The convening MPs are also reported to have invited all former Gusii elected leaders, politicians, religious and opinion leaders from the 10 constituencies in the three districts.

The meeting, which was at one stage opposed by a group of the community's members, will also discuss the position of the Abagusii community in the country's national politics. Sources, however, said the meeting would only discuss development matters.
