Calm Returns At College As Students' Demands Are Met

Learning has resumed at Egerton University's Kisii campus following Monday's student protests.

Calm returned after the college's administration gave in to demands by students that a computer training centre affiliated to the institution be closed.

A team of technicians at the campus carried 30 computers from the centre to the college, yesterday.

Police also released some students arrested during the disturbances, in which the about 300 students demonstrated in Kisii town, and demanded the resignation of Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ezra Maritim.They claimed that computers meant for the institution had been taken to the commercial centre illegally.They also demanded that the road linking the institution to the Kisii-Kilgoris highway be repaired.They were forced back into the institution by riot police.
