Calm Returns to Gucha, Trans Mara Border Area

Normal activities along the Gucha/Trans Mara border have resumed after two years tribal skirmishes between Kisiis and Maasais.

The tribal animosity between the two communities, which resulted in deaths and destruction of property, compelled security chiefs from Trans Mara and Gucha to impose stiff resolutions which were aimed at curbing the escalating conflicts.

Leasing of land and grazing of animals along the common border which had been banned as a measure towards resolution of rows has now resumed.A spot check carried by East African Standard along the border showed the communities were now interacting and exchanging ideas freely.

At Nyangusu and Nyacheki markets, Maasais were crossing over to Trans Mara to trade with their Kisii counterparts whom they had not been seeing eye to eye for the last two years.

Hundreds of hectares in Trans Mara which have been lying uncultivated for two years have now been tilled by the Kisiis who have leased them.

The activities resumed soon after the outcome of the last General Election which saw Mr Julius Sunkuli (Kilgoris) and Zephania Nyangwara (Bomachoge) the immediate former MPs voted out.
