The workshop owner, Jeremiah Matoke and the salon dealer, Daniel Onchonga, told journalists the fire might have been caused by an electric fault at around 8.30pm.
Meanwhile, a bar maid and her boyfriend who are suspected to be members of a gang that stormed Daraja Mbili estate in Kisii town this week were yesterday arrested and handed over to police.
The two were apprehended by residents after the barmaid was found wearing a pair of shoes said to have been stolen from one of the houses.
The woman claimed she had been given the shoes by her boyfriend.
Angry members of public tied them up with ropes after roughing them up and frog-marched them to Kisii police station.
