Anyona killed in accident

George Moseti Anyona, former MP for Kitutu Masaba, is dead. Anyona died while undergoing treatment at Mater Hospital in Nairobi, following a road accident at the Lusaka Uhuru-Highway round about.

Police report say Anyona's car collided with a trailer at 8.30 am today. Anyona, founder of The Kenya Social Congress Party, was born in 1945 in Tombe Village, Kitutu Masaba.

George Moseti Anyona was born in 1945 in Tombe Village, Kitutu Masaba. He attended Alliance High School and proceeded to Makerere University, Uganda where he studied Political Science, English, Economics and History.

In 1974, Anyona ventured into politics and won the then Kitutu East Parliamentary seat. He was detained twice, first in 1977 by President Jomo Kenyatta and in 1982 by President Daniel Moi.

Anyona made a political comeback in 1990 during the clamour for Multi-Party democracy in Kenya.
Shortly after he re-entered Kenyan politics in 1990, Anyona was again arrested at a Nairobi pub and charged with sedition.

Others arrested with him included Professor Edward Oyugi, Isiah Ngotho Kariuki, and Augustus Njeru Kathangu. In December 1992 Anyona launched his own political party.

The Kenya Social Congress, and heunsuccessfully vied for the Presidency.
