No polygamist will be allowed to head a Catholic-sponsored school in Kisii district.

The Rev Okemwa Mairura of the Kisii diocese said only those who got their spouses through a "holy wedding" and remained faithful to them would head the institutions.

The church would be encouraging promiscuity if it let polygamists run its schools, he said."The church doctrine (on moral rectitude) is very clear and we ought to respect it," he said. He was closing a three-day workshop for headteachers of Catholic-sponsored schools in the area.

He reminded them that, as managers of Christian institutions, they had to lead "Christ-like lives devoid of squabbles and mischievous conduct".
