The management of a farmers' cooperative union has accused the provincial administration in Kisii of destabilising the coffee sector in the region. In a memorandum to Cooperatives Development minister Peter Ndwiga, Kisii Farmers Cooperative Union secretary Johnson Momanyi accuses the provincial administration of using former officials to destablise the union.
Mr Momanyi also claims the former officials of coffee societies in the three Gusii districts were fuelling wrangles in the union whose 24 affiliate coffee societies are drawn from Kisii, Nyamira and Gucha districts. He says people claiming to be officials of the 24 primary societies have been holding secret meetings with Government officials and at an administrator's office to discuss the alleged mismanagement of the KFCU.
Some of the alleged officials appointed to take over from the current officials belong to a non-existent co-operative society, Nyakegogi. The letter has been copied to the Permanent Secretary in charge of Provincial Administration, Minister for Agriculture Minister for Lands and Settlement, Commissioner of Co-operatives, Provincial Cooperative Officer, District Commissioner Kisii, Nyamira and Gucha and District Cooperative Officer Kisii, Nyamira and Gucha.
