Coffee output in three Gusii districts has increased by more than half-a-million kilogrammes this season. But marketing firm KPCU says the quality of the produce was still a cause for worry.

Kisii, Gucha and Nyamira districts produced three million kilogrammes up from the 2.5 million kilogrammes realised last season.The Kenya Planters Co-operative Union's Kisii regional manager said the increase was as a result of recent measures taken by the marketing agent to pay coffee farmers in advance and give them credit facilities once they deliver their crop.

"The farmers now have hope in the measures KPCU has taken to ensure they reap maximum profit from their crop", Mr A. Maina told reporters in Kisii yesterday.
