In Kisii Knut secretary David Mokamba warned politicians in the area to stop provoking the striking teachers as Cardinal Otunga High, Mosocho, Kereri Girls, Nyabururu and Kisii High were closed down.
A Kisii Kanu MP yesterday put President Moi in the dock for traveling abroad while teachers were on strike. According to Kitutu Chache's Jimmy Angwenyi, the move "proved' that the Head of State didn't care about the education of children in the country. He said it was wrong for the President to be out of the country when the education sector was in chaos, and proposed that some money be "sliced' from the current budget and pay the teachers part of their 1997 salary award.
