Mob lynches 4 suspects

Four suspected gangsters were killed on Sunday while three others escaped in Kisii. Two of the dead suspects were lynched by members of the public at Nyagiki village. The others were shot while trying to escape from custody of CID officers at Masongo village.

Trouble started when the seven gangsters, suspected to be among criminals who have been terrorising Kisii and Gucha districts, were found having hijacked a Toyota matatu from Keroka. They were found along the Nyagiki road in Gucha when the vehicle they had hijacked ran out of petrol. They were then carrying several sacks of goods they had stolen from Keroka area. When they saw the pursuing members of public and police officers, three of them, armed with guns, opened fire. An exchange of gunfire ensued with the officers during the 7 am incident. After the thugs ran out of bullets, they fled to Nyagiki hills where members of public cornered two.

Gucha OCPD Burudi Makokha and the DCIO, Michael Nyambok, said they had recovered identity cards bearing the names Darius Getanda Isaboke, Nyareru Maurice Mwangi and Paul Mosoti Ombogo from the slain suspects. The two who were shot dead had identity cards bearing the names Wilfred Choti and Richard Nyaberi Obwori.
