In Kisii, confusion reigned as separate Kanu factions left for Nairobi to attend the presidential nominations. Factions from Bonchari and Kitutu Chache branches assembled at the Kisii Kanu office ready for the trip, only to realise that rival groups had already left for Nairobi.
One Bonchari factions is led by former Cabinet minister Protus Momanyi, who was ousted as branch boss two months ago by a parliamentary aspirant, Mr Charles Onyancha. Mr Onyancha's team left Kisii on Friday. Yesterday, Dr Momanyi said he was on his way to Nairobi with his group and asked the party headquarters to bar the rival faction.
In Kitutu Chache, a group of delegates led by a youth leader and four councillors led by Mr Kashimir Makori were making frantic efforts to travel to the city. They said that their names had been omitted by a group led by Mr Sam Nyamweya. Those in Mr Nyamweya's camp had travelled the previous day. Only delegates from Health Minister Sam Ongeri's Nyaribari Masaba left as one team.
