Parliament was yesterday told of how five drunk police officers crushed a woman to death with their vehicle and later shot dead three people.
And Internal Security Minister Julius Sunkuli said he had instructed the Commissioner of Police to arrest the five officers who allegedly killed four innocent people in Kisii pending charges in court.Sunkuli made the disclosure following a question by Kitutu Masaba MP George Anyona (KSC) who had sought to know whether the minister was aware about the incident which occurred on June 8.
Anyona stunned the House when he disclosed that on the material day, the five drunk officers from Keroka Police Station drove recklessly in the town at 3pm and hit a woman by the name Eunice Nyamoita Oginda. On realising she was not dead, the officers reversed the car over her and crushed her to death.
When a crowd surfaced, the officers called for reinforcements from Magombo AP camp who then shot at innocent civilians killing three on the spot. They included two students, Denis Ombaye Mangare and Duke Mochama as well as a tout, Mr Tom Osinde.Anyona said the officers then hijacked a car registration number KZT 310 in which they put the body of the woman and dumped it in a village far away from the scene.Sunkuli said investigations were in progress and he had instructed the Commissioner of Police to arrest the five officers pending charges being brought before court.
He said he did not have all the facts of the incident because the question had been put by private notice and requested for more time to allow him to get a post-mortem report for an exhaustive answer.Deputy Speaker Joab Omino deferred the question to Thursday next week to enable Sunkuli gather all the facts.
