Bongo further said that over 18,000 malaria cases have been diagnosed and treated at the district hosptial and other health institutions in the district.
He assured members of the public that there are enough anti-malaria drugs in all health institutions in the area and advised those who have detected malaria symptoms to immediately seek medical attention.
Speaking to journalists at his office, the MOH yesterday appealed to the district residents to use mosquito nets, spray their houses and cut all bushes around them as preventive measures.
He warned medical quacks against taking advantage of the outbreak and advised the locals to seek medical attention only at recognised Government health centres.
Meanwhile, hospitals have reported that malaria inci-dence has increased two-fold in the Kisii highland areas between May and June,
And the Nyanza Provincial Medical Officer (PMO), Dr Ambrose Misore, directed district MOHs to intensify the war against the resurgence of the disease in their areas.
The directive comes after the Government issued an alert earlier in the week of a new wave of malaria incidents in parts of the country.
Misore said out-patients in Nyamira, Gucha and Kisii central had increased from 700 to 1,600 in the last two months.
He said records show that in-patients had also doubled from 1,100 cases to 2,200.
