he Ford-P national chairman, Mr Kimani wa Nyoike, said yesterday the party had been receiving delegations led by parliamentarians from Kanu and the Opposition wishing to defect. Mr wa Nyoike was addressing a public rally at Nairobi's Kayole Secondary School. He opened an office at the neighbouring Koma Rock estate. The Ford-P official said: "Our party is very vibrant and many people are joining us quietly. For the past two weeks, we have received delegations led by Kanu and Opposition MPs wishing to defect."
Mr wa Nyoike asked Kenyans to expect major changes in the next few weeks when Kanu and Opposition presidential aspirants are named. Kanu has five contestants – Vice-President George Saitoti and Cabinet ministers Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi and Kalonzo Musyoka.
The Opposition has four aspirants namely; Mr Mwai Kibaki (DP), Ford Kenya's Kijana Wamalwa, Mrs Charity Ngilu of NPK and Prof Anyong' Nyong'o of SDP. Earlier, Ford-P's Kasarani parliamentary aspirant, Ms Orie Rogo-Manduli, criticised the Maendeleo Ya Wanawake chairperson, Mrs Zipporah Kittony, for claiming that all women in the country backed President Moi's preferred choice for the Kanu nomination.
She accused Mrs Kittony of misleading Kenyans, saying she spoke on her own behalf.
