Ford People presidential hopeful Simeon Nyachae yesterday showed up at the Lavington residence of Professor George Saitoti shortly after the former Vice-President had been relieved of his duties.Nyachae arrived at Saitoti’s home at 1.30pm in a green Mercedes Benz accompanied by his close ally, Bomet MP Kipkalia Kones. They held private discussions with Saitoti for one hour.
Speaking outside the former V-P’s compound, Nyachae said he did not go to Lavington to woo Saitoti to Ford People, but to express solidarity with him.“The question of Saitoti joining Ford People was not the subject of our discussions,” said Nyachae. He said the former Vice-President had all along been a very serious supporter of democratic principles within his party and outside.
Nyachae said they shared a lot in common with the former Vice-President adding that they were both concerned about how democracy can be inculcated in Kenya.“Saitoti’s conscience is very clear on this, and he has taken his sacking well,” said Nyachae.Nyachae also defended the Rainbow Alliance, noting that it was not for a few individuals, but was a representative of the people of Kenya. He said it is through the members of the Rainbow Alliance that the views of Kenyans are heard.
