Patients moved from hospital in police raid

Gucha police raided a private hospital in Trans Mara district and took away two critically ill high school students.

The students, both in Form Three, were shot by police in last weekend's security operation on the Gucha/Trans Mara border.

The officers yanked medical equipment off the students in the Wednesday night raid that lasted less than 15 minutes, and carried them away, accompanied by two officers deployed to guard them. It is not known where they were taken. They were identified as Darius Auka of Rogongo Secondary School and Ibrahim Otara Nyabere of Nduru Secondary.

They were admitted to Akemo Valley Nursing Home in Trans Mara, where they were taken by good Samaritans, after they sustained gun shot wounds, reportedly from stray police bullets. Police traced them to the hospital and put them under a twenty four-hour surveillance.

According to the hospital's managing director, Dr Antony Keriga, the police arrived at 10 pm and ordered the watchman to open the gate. "Two people came to visit patients although it was past time visiting hours. They identified themselves as police officers," he explained. He said the officers walked in the direction of Ogembo Police Station.
