Lobbying Starts for Ford-P Nomination

The race for the nomination of Ford People parliamentary and civic candidates in Kisii, Nyamira and Gucha has started. The aspirants demanded that those among them who held key positions at the party secretariat be replaced.

The nominations are scheduled to take place mid-next month. Intense campaigning and lobbying began at the weekend, with nightlong meetings being held in South Mugirango, Bomachoge, Nyaribari Masaba and Kitutu Masaba. The constituencies have attracted many politicians allied to Ford-P leader Simeon Nyachae.

In South Mugirango, immediate former MP James Magara will battle it out with Mr Nyachae's long-time friend Reuben Oyondi, while in Bomachoge, a close ally of Mr Nyachae, former MP Zephania Anyieni, and outgoing MP Zephania Nyang'wara will be competing for party nomination. In Kitutu Masaba, former government economist Timothy Bosire and Mr Okioma Nyangau met their supporters over the nominations. The immediate former MP is Mr George Anyona, who leans towards Kanu. There were also intense campaigns in Nyaribari Masaba. A close Nyachae associate, Dr Hezron Manduku, will battle it out with businessman Ratemo Nyara.

The three districts of Kisii, Nyamira and Gucha are Mr Nyachae's strongholds and splits could occur after the party ominations. However, the fairness of the nomination method adopted could prevent divisions.Aspirants welcomed the decision to have the Ford-P nominations carried out through the secret ballot.
