The Thursday exam started at around noon, forcing the supervisor to reschedule the Kiswahili Paper Three (Fasihi) to 5.30pm.But the District Education Officer, Mr William Okumu, downplayed the crisis, saying the candidates did the exams without problems.
Following the incident, the Ministry of Education has been asked to explain the Kenya National Examinations Council error.Konoin MP Sammy Koech raised fear the students' results might be cancelled.Addressing a news conference at Nyali Beach Hotel, Mombasa, Koech said Knec had made many blunders in this year's examinations, causing anxiety among candidates and parents.
"We are concerned over the plight of our children. Their results might be cancelled on allegations of cheating," he said.
The MP said he would seek a ministerial statement in Parliament on Tuesday. He said the exams body should assure students that they will accept the photocopies."We are worried with the trend of irregularities in the papers this year, it was only recently when there was a nationwide mix up in the Mathematics papers," he said.Other reports indicate that the Government has enhanced exams supervision in areas with high cheating incidents.
