South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara says his life is in danger after arsonists set ablaze his elder brother’s house. The MP said the arsonists petrol-bombed his brother’s house in Nyabigege at the weekend and did not to steal anything. He said three days after the incident, no police officers had visited the home.
"The senior-most officer who has showed up is the local chief who passed by," said Magara.
"I have received death threats which I have reported twice to police but I am surprised no follow-ups are being made," said the MP.
He said he saw political intimidation in the incident but declined to give details. Gucha police boss Sammy Ng’eno could not be reached for comment.
At the same time, Magara turned down demands by some of his constituents to move to a constituency of his choice in Nairobi before next year’s general elections. Speakers at a funds drive at Nyabigena Secondary School in his constituency sarcastically told him that he had gained fame through his outspokenness and should now relocate.
"You seem more popular out there while here at home you have nothing to show since you were elected. No single CDF project has been completed and yet your term is coming to an end," said Manson Nyamweya who hosted the harambee.
Magara, however, told off his critics saying: "I am here to stay. I was born here in South Mugirango, my parents stay here and I will be seeking re-election in next year’s elections here."
