Kisii retain provincial track title

The victors chalked up a total of 236 points during the Term Two A games at Agoro Sare High School, Rachuonyo.
Nyamira were second with 218 points, while neighbours Gucha came third with 147.
In the girls’ 10,000m, this year’s Kebirigo Road race winner, Alice Mogire coasted to victory with a time of 35:01.70, ahead of Jane Onyangi of Kisii who returned 35:30.00.
Another runner from Kisii, Linet Nyaosi, finished third with 35:36.68.
Nyamira’s Stephen Arita won the men’s race with 30:15.38, while Charles Moriti of Gucha finished a close second (30:16.97). Joseph Onsarigo, also of Gucha, was third after registering 30:33.22. The girls’ 3,000m race saw Nancy Samuel of Kisii cross the finishing line first in 10:17.43. She beat Gucha’s Lilian Misoi to the second position (10:17.81), while Elda Kuria of Kisii was third placed with a time of 10:20.70.
In the boys’ category, Samuel Ongige (Kisii) triumphed with 9:02.78. Team-mate Rodgers Gisabwa was second with 9:02.87, while Amos Chirchir of Nyando finished third after clocking 9:33.78.
In the sprints, Sammy Nyakundi of Nyamira won the boys’ 100m event in 11.07, ahead of Gramwel Bunyasi of Kisumu, who returned 11.19. Eugine Ochieng’ of Nyando was third with 11.41.
Migori’s Ben Otieno raced to victory in the 400m event after returning 50.93, Francis Omari (Gucha) fi nished second with a time of 51.04. Another Gucha runner, Dominic Ondoro, was third with 51.68.
Meanwhile, Nyanza has named teams for the nationals at Mang’u High School, Thika, on June 14-18.
George Omondi, the provincial schools’ sports secretary, said the teams would leave on June 12.
Maseno School, who dethroned St Mary’s Yala in the rugby 15s, will represent the province in the national event. In the girls’ handball, Nyawara will be the provincial flag bearers following their 8-7 win over Sinaga of Siaya in the final.
Nyamira Technical, who upset Maseno 17-15 will be the boys’ representatives. In netball, new champions, Kisumu Girls will make it to the national challenge after they dethroned Aluor Girls 41-26 in the final.
