Ikonge SDA student wins 10,000m race in Nyamira

Victor Ombati is the new Nyamira District secondary schools 10,000m champion.

Ombati, a student at Ikonge SDA Secondary School, clocked 30:00.19 to win the title at Matongo High School.

He was followed closely by Fred Mabiria of Kiendege Secondary School, who clocked 31:34.00.

Shadrack Chirchir of Leitigo Secondary School won the 5,000m title in 16:34.38, relegating last year’s winner, Denis Kiyaka, of Kiendege to second position in 16:40.00.

The 1,500m title was won by Meshack Isaboke of Nyaguku, who won in 3:57.37, narrowly beating Amos Mosiani of Nyagokiani Secondary School to second position in 3:57.87.

The girls’ 10,000m title went to Hyline Nyabuto of Nyachogochogo, who clocked 32:51.00, followed Damaclyn Nyakemwa of Kerongeta, who clocked 34:02.00.

Mokwerero Secondary School’s Edna Nyabicha won the women’s 5,000m race, clocking 17:00.00 while Rael Nyaundi of Nyankoba finished second in 17:30.00.

In Kisii District, Marani Division bagged the overall athletics title with 193, points, beating Masaba to second position with 183 points. Keumbu finished third with 121 points. Marani also dethroned Masaba to win the boys’ title with 114 pints while Masaba had 86 points. Keumbu scored 56 points.

Masaba retained the girls’ overall title with 97 points, relegating Marani to second position with 79 points. Ibacho finished third with 59 points. Experienced runner Jane Onyang’i of Kiomiti stole the show at the games by winning the 10,000m and 5,000m girls’ races.

She clocked 33:56.23 to win the 10,000m race and was followed by Carolyn Meraba, another seasoned runner, who clocked 34:14.96. Onyangi beat Nyota’s Emily Nakeri to win the 5,000m race. Onyang’i clocked 18:18.40 while Nakeri clocked 18:33.91. Wilta Kerage clocked 19:05.60.
