Athlete Mosima to support Kisii training camp

A Japanese-based Kenyan athlete, Philip Mosima has pledged to support the newly formed Kisii High Altitude Athletics training camp.

Mosima, speaking on the phone from Japan said he would help the camp acquire training kit and equipment.

"I am encouraged by the initiative to set up the camp, which will help develop athletics talent at the grassroots," Mosima said.

He promised to secure an athletics scholarship for two runners from the camp, who will join him in Japan next May.

Hezron Mokamba, the camp manager and coach Charles Obuogi yesterday thanked Mosima for coming to the aid of the camp.

According to the two officials, the Kisii Camp will hold an athletics trials meeting on Monday to pick the two runners who will benefit from the Mosima initiative.

The trials will be staged at Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho.

Meanwhile, 12 Tanzanians will take part in next month’s Ochillo Ayacko Road race in Awendo.

Athletics Kenya, Migori secretary, Wilson Ogot said the athletes are from the Mara Athletics Club in Musoma.

By yesterday, the participants’ list had hit the 600 mark for the event, on April 9.

The inaugural race is sponsored by Sports Minister Ochillo Ayacko and will cover 15 km. It has a total prize money of Sh 200,000.
